About This Project

Island Voices, Enniskillen Toastmasters, provides an inclusive, friendly, and supportive environment where members can overcome public‑speaking nerves, build confidence, and develop communication skills at their own pace. The club also helps members strengthen leadership abilities by taking on meeting roles, offering feedback, and helping to run meetings. These experiences support both personal and professional growth while offering opportunities to connect with people from diverse backgrounds.  Founded in July 2025, the club now holds regular twice‑monthly meetings on the second and fourth Tuesdays at the Workhouse, 2 Erne Road, Enniskillen.

Design Thinking Workshops

Nine participants attended an online Design Thinking Workshop on 16th October 2025. Because the traditional Toastmasters colour-based timing system can create accessibility challenges for some speakers, the STRIDE Design Thinking Workshop explored ways to make timing more inclusive. The group proposed developing a digital timing tool to support both speech preparation and delivery.
Deliverables
STRIDE deliverables included:
• Identify and assess existing apps and web-based timers that work on browsers, iPhone and Android devices
• Create a shortlist of platforms that meet the group’s accessibility requirements
• Develop a prototype timer shaped by user feedback

Results & Impact

A digital timer web app prototype with accessibility options was developed, and other 3rd-party alternatives were identified for iPhone, Android and Web.
