About This Project

Enniskillen Railway Heritage Group was formed in 1997 by former railway employees and enthusiasts, led by Selwyn Johnston, coinciding with an exhibition and railway employee reunion commemorating the 40th Anniversary of the closure of railways in Fermanagh.  Their aim was to establish a location for a permanent railway museum, and five years later, in 2002, the museum was opened at Headhunters Barbers Shop, as they could not identify suitable (free) premises and a funding model which would sustain it. Headhunters Railway Museum (HRM) is a registered charity, and its aim is to collect, preserve, and interpret railway heritage for the education of the general public, with a particular focus on the railway companies that served Fermanagh and the surrounding areas. HRM also promotes and encourages other forms of social, cultural, and recreational activities within the community to advance knowledge and appreciation of our railway heritage. The museum is an archive of local railway artefacts, documents, and research, including information on railway employees. Events are held regularly to promote the connection with steam travel, including educational school visits and exhibitions. HRM has been awarded several prestigious awards from the Heritage Railway Association, Queens Award for Voluntary Service 2017, Impartial Reporter Community Heritage Award 2025 and the British Independent Retail Association ‘Love Your High Street UK Award 2025’ https://bira.co.uk/campaigns/lyhs/lyhs-awards-finalists/  It has been featured on several national TV programmes, visited by numerous personalities and is a valued visitor attraction within Co Fermanagh (rated 8th best thing to do in Enniskillen on TripAdvisor) HEADHUNTERS BARBER SHOP & RAILWAY MUSEUM (2025) All You Should Know BEFORE You Go (w/ Reviews)  HRM has been awarded a 4 Star visitor attraction rating by Tourism NI and enjoys a close working relationship with museums throughout Ireland and the UK, with inter-loans and collaborations/ exhibitions focusing on Fermanagh’s railway heritage.
