Atlantic Technological University (ATU) Sligo is a leading higher education institution that has driven economic and social development in the North West of Ireland for over 50 years. Home to over 8,600 students, ATU Sligo provides a modern, 21st-century learning environment across Business, Engineering, and Science disciplines. Despite its state-of-the-art facilities, the university sought to address ongoing infrastructural challenges, specifically severe parking shortages and unreliable regional transport, which caused significant stress for students and staff. In collaboration with the STRIDE programme, ATU Sligo initiated the development of a Smart Parking Occupancy Dashboard. Utilising IoT sensors and a mobile-friendly interface, this digital solution provides real-time traffic-light indicators of parking availability, shuttle alternatives, and email alerts, drastically reducing commuter anxiety and unnecessary carbon emissions.
